![]() What do you think about these exclusive features of the Apple Silicon Macs? How do you like macOS Monterey? Tell us in the comment section below. With the release of macOS Monterey, all users can use Live Text in Photos, which gives the ability to interact with text in photos. One of the features that were listed as exclusive to the M1 Macs became available to Intel users as well. The update is coming for a lot of Apple Silicon-based (M-series chips) or Intel. With macOS Monterey, users can dictate texts of any length without a timeout. Based on this, the brand is rolling out the full-fledged version of macOS Monterey for its lineup of computers. On-device dictation: Keyboard dictation helps protect the user’s privacy by performing all processing completely offline. With macOS Monterey, this feature will be available in more languages: Swedish (Sweden), Danish (Denmark), Norwegian (Norway), and Finnish (Finland). Siri: Neural text-to-speech voice in more languages is only available to the M1 Macs. Object Capture: With macOS Monterey, users will be able to turn a series of 2D images into a photo-realistic 3D object that’s optimized for AR in just minutes using the power of Mac. With these two features, users will be able to interact with a 3D globe and explore cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, and London with detail for elevation, roads, trees, buildings, landmarks, and more. Maps: Interactive globe and detailed new city experience will only be available in the M1 Macs running macOS Monterey. Portrait Mode on FaceTime: Only M1 Macs on macOS Monterey will be able to blur the background of a video call using FaceTime. With the second major software update to take advantage of the Apple Silicon, here are the features Apple introduced that will be only available to its Macs with proprietary processors. As Apple is in the middle of the transition from Intel to its own silicon, the company is still supporting many Intel Macs. When Apple made the transition from PowerPC to Intel, the company was quick to drop support from older Macs. Even so, not all users will be able to take advantage of the new features, as several functions will only be available to the M1, M1 Pro, and M1 Max Mac models. Live Text, the company’s new image scanning and text identifying feature, now runs on all Mac computers that support macOS Monterey, according to new documentation Apple released. Going forward, it's likely Apple will continue building out macOS with new features available exclusively on Macs with M1 - or the upcoming Apple M2 chip, if the rumors prove true.MacOS Monterey was first unveiled during the WWDC21 keynote and after four months, it’s finally released today. If you happen to have an Apple Developer Account, you can download the macOS Monterey developer beta right now to take an early look at some of these features, though of course there will be many updates between now and when the final version hits the market. The public beta due out next month should afford us more insight into whether those features are worth the upgrade. While we won't know for sure how good or useful these features are until macOS Monterey launches in the fall fall, the fact that Apple is building tools exclusive to the M1 chip gives macOS users another good reason to invest in a new Mac packing Apple silicon. However in the most recent release notes for Monterey beta 4, Apple said, 'Live Text now works across all Mac computers that support macOS Monterey. macOS Monterey outlook for Intel-based Macs The feature is already available on iOS 15 and was originally thought to be limited to M1 Mac computers and newer versions of MacBook Airs and Pros. The earbuds will do some dynamic head tracking to change the way things sound as you move your head, and effects and dialogue will sound as if they're coming from the appropriate side. Spatial Audio: If you happen to own both an M1-equipped Mac running macOS Monterey and a pair of AirPods Pro or AirPods Max earbuds, you'll have access to new spatial audio features intended to replicate the experience of surround sound. Siri: Siri is getting an upgrade in macOS Monterey that includes M1-exclusive support for text-to-speech voices in Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, and Swedish. It's a neat trick, and one that's only available on M1-equipped Macs. Object Capture: macOS Monterey is also introducing a new AR-focused feature called Object Capture that will let you create a photo-realistic 3D object out of a set of 2D images. However, these flashy new Maps features are only available on Macs with an M1 chip. Maps: Apple Maps is getting an interactive 3D globe feature a la Google Earth - one that will allow you to zoom in to scope out major geographical landmarks or explore select major cities (think: New York, San Francisco, London, etc.) with new levels of detail. MacOS Monterey's new Live Text feature will let you select text in images, then paste it into an app like Maps - but only if your Mac has an M1 chip. ![]()
